What this coverage is generally intended to address
- •The structure itself. Generally intended to respond to covered damage to the home, its shell, and anything permanently attached to it.
- •Your belongings. Contents coverage for what you keep inside, which in a tiny home is usually built in rather than free-standing.
- •Personal liability. Generally intended to respond if someone is injured at your home or you damage property belonging to somebody else.
- •On the road, if it moves. A tiny home on wheels is exposed while being towed, which a standard dwelling policy does not contemplate. Say whether yours moves when you call.
- •Where it sits. A tiny home in an RV park, on rented land, or in a back garden are three different situations to a carrier. The address matters.

Frequently asked questions
Is a tiny home insured like an RV or like a house?
It depends on how it is built and certified. A tiny house on wheels built to RV standards is often treated closer to a recreational vehicle, while one on a permanent foundation looks more like a dwelling. A factory-built tiny home usually falls under the same programs as other manufactured housing. Have the build certification handy when you call.
Does it matter whether it is on wheels?
Yes, significantly. A home that can be towed has exposures a fixed dwelling does not, both on the road and from being moved. Tell us which yours is, because it changes which program fits.
I rent the land my tiny home sits on. Can it still be insured?
Generally yes. Owning the home without owning the ground under it is common, and it does not prevent coverage. The park or landowner may also have their own insurance requirements written into your agreement.
Can I insure a tiny home I built myself?
Owner-built homes are harder to place than certified factory-built ones, because there is no manufacturer certification behind the construction. It is worth a call rather than an assumption either way.
Which number should I call?
Tiny homes go through 833-844-4357, the same line as manufactured, mobile and park model homes. That is true in every state with no exceptions.
