Insurance for beds, booths and everything between
A salon sells a service that happens to the customer’s skin, in equipment the salon maintains, on a timer the salon sets. That is the whole risk in one sentence, and it is why the questions are about cleaning, supervision and paperwork rather than square footage.
General liability
Generally intended to respond to third-party bodily injury and property damage at the salon, which is the slip in a wet room as much as anything else.
The beds themselves
Carriers ask how many you run, whether they are cleaned between customers, and whether an attendant controls the session time rather than the customer. A bed on an unsupervised timer is a different risk from the same bed with staff setting it.
Spray tan
Booth and airbrush work brings solution on skin, in eyes, and on the floor. Ventilation and the surfaces around the booth come up in underwriting.
Waivers
Most programs expect every client to sign one. It is one of the first things asked and one of the easiest to fix if you do not.
What sits outside the standard program
Plenty of salons add services over time, and some of them move the account to a different market. The quote form lists them and asks directly, because finding out at binding helps nobody. If you offer any, the quote still goes ahead and a separate application follows for those services.
- Acupuncture
- Brazilian blowouts, or other hair treatments using formaldehyde
- Chemical peels
- Cryotherapy
- Electrolysis
- Eyelash extensions
- Hyperbaric chambers
- Laser treatment
- Microdermabrasion
- Piercing
- Tattooing, including permanent makeup
- Invasive procedures such as Botox
- Intravenous (IV) hydration, intramuscular (IM) injections, or light therapies (red, blue and similar)

Frequently asked questions
Do we need insurance if we only do spray tans?
Yes. There is no equipment timer to worry about, but there is still a customer on your premises, solution being applied, and a floor that gets slippery.
Does the number of beds change the price?
It is one of the inputs, along with how they are supervised and cleaned. Two salons with the same bed count can rate differently if one leaves customers to set their own time.
We also do lashes and facials. Can you still quote us?
Yes, but not on the standard tanning program alone. Tell us on the form and a salon and spa application follows, which asks about those services specifically.
Looking for leather tanning instead? Tanning of animal hides is a different business and a different form.
