Animal & wildlife control insurance by state

New York animal & wildlife control insurance

New York nuisance wildlife control operators generally carry general liability as their core policy, built around the third-party injury and property-damage exposure of trapping and removal work.

Licensing & permits in New York

New York requires a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator (NWCO) license from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Applicants must be at least 18, complete DEC-approved NWCO training (site evaluation, non-lethal and exclusion methods, capture and handling), and pass an online exam with a score of 80% or higher. Operators who use firearms or certain foothold/body-gripping traps need additional DEC certifications. Confirm current requirements with the DEC before operating.

Operating rules to know

The NWCO license fee is generally $50, paid annually, and licenses expire every September 30. New York does not require NWCO applicants to be state residents.
